June 10, 2022, Mayfield, Ky. – Mayfield’s Purchase Players Community Performing Arts Center held its triumphant grand re-opening tonight with the first of six performances of “The Jungle Book, Kids” just 6 months after the theater sustained serious damage from the tornado that ripped through Mayfield in December.
Though it was one of a handful of structures left standing on its block in downtown Mayfield, the theater was heavily damaged, requiring new siding, sheetrock and a complete overhaul, both indoors and out.
While the tornado cut short Purchase Players’ holiday offering, “A Christmas Carol,” it did not dampen the enthusiasm of its volunteer staff and performers and in January they were hard at work to resurrect the 2022 season. Of particular importance to the staff was moving ahead with the annual Theater Camp for children. So, it’s fitting that Purchase Players reopened with a Theater camp performance.
Next up for Purchase Players is Disney’s “Mary Poppins” on July 15 followed by “The Spongebob Musical” opening on July 29.
